It was June 12, 2008 when I first stepped on the pathway going to Saint Mary’s School.
I felt the fast beating of my heart as I walked towards school. I didn’t know what to do when I met someone on the way. They were new faces to me since I came from Mankayan, Benguet. I didn’t know who they were and where they came from.
I was very shy the first time I saw my classmates. I always stayed in the back row and kept my mouth shut.
“What should I do? Go in front and introduce myself or go to each of them and start to mingle?”
I always asked myself this question but it’s not that easy. I know I must be active and it took me a lot of processing to be able to do that. I was never an outgoing person. But I was able to cope with my classmates as months passed by.
This school is my inspiration and my shelter. It taught me to build my confidence. It taught me how to make things right and to discern what’s wrong. I am continually developing my skill in theatre here and the teachers are always encouraging me to give my very best so that everybody will see it. With its rules and regulations, I was able to realize that doing things such as smoking and drinking makes your image bad in the eyes of others.
I learned that no school is better that Saint Mary’s, it’s always been the best among the rest and I already found my happiness. # by Munirih Calpo
