The Palarong Pambayan ng Sagada kicks off today, September 30, 2011 at the Sagada Central School grounds. It will end on October 2, 2011.
The District Meet is a big opportunity for pupils and students to hone their athletic skills and develop the value of sportsmanship. It is also a time for the selection of the athletes who will represent the district of Sagada at the Provincial Meet.
The opening ceremonies started with a parade from Dao-angan to the SCS grounds. Athletes and teachers from the ten elementary schools and six high schools of the district of Sagada joined the parade as well as the game officials. The Sagada PNP marshaled the event. The SCS Drum and Lyre Corps led the parade.
Mr. Robert Pangod , Sagada Mayor Eduardo T. Latawan's representative, delivered the mayor's message inspiring the athletes to do their best. The mayor and Sagada Vice Mayor Richard A. Yodong were supposed to grace the opening program but they are in Baguio City attending a conference.
Dinah Cambolod, 2010 Palarong Pambansa softball participant, led the Oath of Amateurism. Mr. Milton G. Marrero formally declared the 2011 District Athletic Meet open.
Games to be played are baseball, chess, badminton, basketball, sepak takraw, volleyball, table tennis, softball, football, lawn tennis, and athletics.
The games will be played at the SMSSI courts, community courts, SCS grounds, and at the Tangeb ground.
The weather is overcast as contrary to "the scorching heat of the sun."
