The choir delegates, Saint Mary’s School students, and members of the DepEd Mountain Province Division Choir heated the nights’ cold atmosphere with an outstanding performance of the songs “We Are the Young,” “We Can Make a Difference” and “The First Noel” to conclude the Mountain Province Festival of the Arts 2011.

The Festival’s culminating programs had been a real festival for every delegation and participant of the event. A “pattong for all” just after the torch parade, opened the closing program. Dr. Mary Lang-ayan, Division Superintendent, gave the opening remarks and immediately followed by the Mountain Province Division Choir’s performance.

Mountain Province’s NAMCYA Cultural Troupe Representatives from Dalican ES, the event’s special guest, also presented during the night, followed by the SMS Music Classes presentation. Mr. Milton Marrero, MAPEH Supervisor, announced the most awaited results of the festival. An Honors Recital of the elementary and secondary first placers of the Music and Cultural categories followed.

Mr. Rosendo Cacap gave the closing remarks and acknowledged everyone who made the festival possible, most especially the participants who “became the actors of the event”. He said that the event is the success of every one of “us” who were involved.

The Opening Program

The Festival officially opened with a short program on October 23.

SMS Chaplain Stephen Ofo-ob gave the opening prayer. Mr. Rosendo Cacap acknowledged the delegates of the event. Mr. Rey Fiar-od, the Mayor Eduardo Latawan’s representative gave the welcome address, emphasizing on Sagada’s hospitality. Sir Dennis Faustino, the organizer of the whole event also gave a welcoming speech.

The Delegates

All the districts of Mt. Province were well represented. An estimate of six hundred participants and coaches took part in the Festival.

They were housed in Sagada Central School, Sagada National High School and Ambasing Elementary School except for Paracelis which was accommodated in the SMS dormitory.

The Parade

The closing ceremonies of the festival started with a torch light parade. Participants representing the different districts of Mountain Province bore torches and showcased their cultural dances on the streets of Sagada.

The parade started at Dao-angan going to the SMS gymnasium. The SMS cultural troops lead the parade followed by different districts. SMS students held the signs.

The Events

Just like last years’ Festival of the Arts, the participants also competed on three categories: Art, Music, and Cultural Presentation.

In Art, grades four to six were the only participants for the elementary level. In Music Category, only choir competitions for both elementary and secondary were held, unlike last year in which Solos and Wind and String Instrument Solos were included. Cultural Presentations were also competed for both elementary and secondary.

The Workshops

Art, Music and Cultural Dance Workshops became the opportunity of the participants from the different delegates to unite in their special fields.

The Art workshop was handled by Ms. Janet Eason and Ms. Miriam Daoas. ABS-CBN Foundation provided the art materials for the workshop and competition. Music Workshop, on the other hand, was conducted by Sir Dennis Faustino, Ms. Teresa Salao and Ms. Susan Ngagan. Lastly, the Cultural Dance was supervised by Mr. Daniel Ambasing, Mr. Tomas Olat and Mr. Darren Sauyen.

The Message

Dr. Mary Lang-ayan, our Division Superintendent, expressed her heartfelt remark on the event.

“The event was wonderful! I am actually very emotional because I can’t explain my feeling, after seeing all the students and pupils dance and sing. In art, it seemed as though the festival opened gates to the talents of artistry of the participants. There is a wonderful result because of the teamwork and partnership among the participants.” by Zyne Baybay and Timothy Forarao
