October 24, 2011- Guinaang National High School conquers this year’s High School Choir Competition held at Saint Mary’s School, Sagada, Mt. Province.
GNHS grabbed the gold during last year’s competition making them champions second time in a row.
They performed three songs, a rendition of a Guinaang ancient folksong entitled “Litangfan”, which is the old name for Guinaang, a Gospel song named “Joshua Sit the Battle of Jericho” and lastly, their own version of “Ride the Chariot” together with the other participants of the contest.
“We were confident that we were going to win,” Jomar Unan, a choir member said.
The team was very happy that they won again. Ms. Kate Chokowen, their coach, said that the team has undergone a lot before the competition. They had to deal with a lot of schedule dilemmas since they had to work overtime and also had work at home.
They are hoping that they could join the Regional level this time since they weren’t able to participate last year.
Barlig Comes Second
Barlig District landed second place after being crowned third during last year’s competition. Coached by Ms. Rosalia Vizparo, they staged yet another three sets of songs; a Barlig Folksong, a Cordillera song “March on the Cordillera”, and their own rendition of “Ride the Chariot.”
Cleemar Chaowag, a choir member, said that he was satisfied with their performance.
“I felt happy and excited because I knew that we performed well,” he said.
Following Barlig is Bauko II, represented by singers from Mt. Data National High School. They laughed their performance off.
“I think that kami lang ang may soloist,” Eunice Manuel, a choir member joked.
The first three placers together with the two other contenders, Sadanga and Paracelis are all aspiring victory for yet the same chorale competition next year.
