This school year, SMS has new teachers who are here because of their love, passion, and motivation for teaching.
Sir Larson Calatero - Filipino, Social Studies
An elementary teacher turned high school mentor…Sir Larson first taught in a Sunday school somewhere in his hometown in Tublay. At first he doesn’t intend to become a teacher, but years passed and he graduated as Bachelor of Elementary Education. Now, at 23, he’s here at SMS teaching students to be motivated (like himself) in school. He wants them to develop an independent mind. He encourages them to learn from their own mistakes. This is what’s important for him.
Sir Roger Day-asen - Filipino, Social Studies
A teacher, a musician, and a multi-talented person…Sir Roger, 25, has his first love, and that is teaching. He took Bachelor of Secondary Education at Saint Louis University. His music career is behind him and his music is his way of relieving himself from the stress he has. His philosophy was taken from Confucius: “Do unto others what you want them to do unto you.” This gives quite a lot of meaning to his teaching. What the students learn from him is what the students need to teach to others.
Sir Roderick Pecdasen– Science
A medical technologist, a volleyball player, and a teacher…Sir Rod, 33, took Med-tech for 7 years. But this wasn’t his real choice, his passion is actually teaching. Ironically though, this is actually his first teaching experience in high school because ha has been a medical technologist in different places. He finds the school’s facilities impressive. It is also essential for him to nourish a student’s desire to discover more, since science today is constantly changing.
Ma’am Edralen On-onod – Book Keeper
Maintaining books, settling accounts and cash receipts is Ma’am Edralen’s world. She just graduated on MPSPC (Mountain Province State Polytechnic College) last October 2009 as a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. She found her first job at SMS as a book keeper. Her job involves; disbursement vouches, recordings, accounts, maintaining books, journals, and cash receipts. Ma’am Edralen, 21, says “great things are not done by impulse but by series of small things brought together.”
Sir Dean Bocobo - Science
A teacher in high spirits, a philosopher, and a genius… His thoughts about this school are that it is one of the oldest schools in our country during the American colonial period (that makes English old in this school) and that the students of SMS are very lucky. Being one of the best schools in Mountain Province, there’s a possibility for students to obtain success in college. His objective is to make our students scientists; doctors, engineers, geneticist, solar engineers, environmentalists. Since science is the main spring for intellectual properties it also results to technology that leads to progress.
Ma’am Elvie Kibatay – School Accountant/ Business Math
A patient, kind and fun loving accountant…she also graduated from MPSPC as Bachelor of Accountancy. The reasons why she worked here is because the last job she had she had to commute from Sagada to Bontoc. She hates commuting and at least SMS is near where she lives. Her work here on SMS is to distribute statements of accounts, and keep the money given by the parents to provide the students.
Deacon Andres Pasian - School Chaplain/Values Education
Strict, yet kind, religious, sometimes has a good sense of humor… for the first time SMS will study the religion, sacraments, the church, and their religion. Thanks to Deacon Andres we will learn values and morals from life. This is necessary because SMS is a Catholic School. One quote he’s written during classes is: “It doesn’t matter what you do on Sunday, but what matters is who you are through Monday to Saturday.”
Sir Glenn Gayagay – Mathematics
Simple, fun and close to the students…Some of you may know that Sir Glenn is a returning teacher. He had his practice teaching in Natonin for a year. He also became an SMS practice teacher during the past years. He teaches Algebra for the first years and second years and Algebra elective for the 3rd years. Math has subject he thought and he had been also became very close to the students of SMS since his first year here.
