Volleyball Boys

Tension rises as Losban and Malingeb were even at 14 in the third set of the boys’ volleyball game. Both teams were at the brink of elimination with one lose each. Malingeb failed to ground the ball back to the other court that raised the score to 15-14 in favor of Losban. Aylwin Timmango of Losban served the ball but Malingeb grounded it back. The ball was repeatedly grounded between the two teams. Near the end of the last set, Aylwin tossed the ball as it came towards him. It landed on the end line unopposed because who was supposed to receive it ducked. The final score is 16-14 in favor of Losban. Losban rejoiced for the hard-earned victory. On the other hand, the faces of the Malingeb players looked bleak but they tried to smile despite being eliminated.

After the win, the final game was set to be played between Matoba and Losban. Matoba beat Losban when they played in the play-off stage of the volleyball tournament. Matoba then beat Malingeb and was undefeated going to the Finals. Losban on the other hand came back from being in the losing side and eliminated both Bilig and Malingeb, and climbed their way towards the Finals.

Losban won the first set. Guillermo Semon of Matoba was unfortunately injured during the second set. His right foot landed badly causing a sprain after he jumped in an attempt to block a drop ball from Losban. Still unluckily, no substitutes were available so he had to continue playing.

Losban won the game 3 sets to 1. The score on the fourth set was 27-25 in favor of Losban which marked the championship game between the two sides. Since it was a double elimination tournament, Matoba did not lose the final game as it had no lose before the defeat from Losban. This set the last confrontation of the two teams. (Set 1: Losban 25-15 Matoba, Set 2: Losban 18-25 Matoba, Set 3: Losban 25-17 Matoba, Set 4: Losban 27-25 Matoba.)

Both teams had a 30-minute rest before their championship game. It was a five-set game like the previous one. The fifth set will be a decision set in case both teams will win two sets each after the four sets were played.

It started drizzling as the first set came to an end with Losban winning, 25-21. The game continued in the covered court since it started raining. Matoba won the second set (25-20) with a lot of support and motivation from their supporters. Matoba had more supporters on the bench compared to Losban. Despite of this, the supporters of Losban also did their best to cheer for the team. Losban won the third set (25-18).

During the fourth set, the crowd roared for Matoba as its players tried to catch up with Losban. Losban was one point away from stealing the championship crown which Matoba won during the previous volleyball tournament, school year 2009-2010. The lead was four points. Moises Malecdan of Losban served the ball and was grounded back by Daniel Semon of Matoba. Tension rose as the ball was grounded repeatedly. But, Lawrence Timpac of Losban spiked the ball towards the opposing side with all his strength. The ball landed inside Matoba’s court unopposed. That spike sealed the fate of Matoba and its downfall (Losban 25-20 Matoba).

The whistle of the referee blew! Losban players jumped for joy as their hearts shouted for triumph for the victory they have achieved! Both teams shook each other’s hands and some players hugged each other and shared jokes and laughs. The voices and “hoorays!” of the Losban players and supporters echoed throughout the school.
