Step Out and Believe

By Zyne Baybay

It becomes a remarkable feeling when you are able to see something in yourself, when you believe that anything is possible and that certain boundaries can be disregarded. But besides your own self-confidence, it is more amazing to find yourself surrounded by people who would believe, trust and have faith in you, no matter how silly your decisions could be.

The movie Gracie is based on real events, reflecting the situation of a girl who didn’t want to get stuck in the generation of girls who experience fewer opportunities when it comes to passion and dreams. This movie, directed by Davis Guggenheim, starring Dermot Murloney, Elisabeth Shue and Carly Schroeder, shows how a girl altered the thoughts of people who believed only guys could play soccer. Gracie had the self- belief that she could do it, and that she was fierce enough to play with the boys, not only to continue a legacy of her dead brother, but also because she knew that soccer was her passion- she loved the sport. However, her family did not believe in her as much as she believed in herself. In the end, people realized that they can do anything as long as there is self-belief and belief from other people, most especially from their own families. And more, she was able to make millions of other girls step out and show what they can do.

Sometimes, we have to realize that we can limit ourselves when it comes to our own dreams and goals; but we should not let others set the limits for us. We just have to take the first step - to make ourselves believe that we could do anything and everything’s possible. We should not quit just because people laugh at us and tell us to stop. We think of things that could appear to be really foolish and ridiculous for most people. But so what? That’s what we believe in, and we have to prove to other people that those things could happen. So we have to keep in mind, that no matter what we are up against, we have to keep fighting and we’ll soon get there. And later on, we wouldn’t even know how we changed the lives of other people just by stepping out and believing. #
