Saint Mary’s School of Sagada
Principal’s Bulletin, 2011-2012 Series # 5
July 21, 2011
Dear Parents, Students, Alumni, and Friends:
The first quarter exam is fast approaching! We expect that the energy in the school will significantly increase as students work harder than usual to finish their major papers and to prepare for the exams. The teachers are also determined to finish the first quarter curriculum.
We had the parent-teacher-student conference (PTSC) for the second to fifth year students last week. We had it last Monday for the first year students. Most of the first and second year parents came while some third year parents attended the conference. There were few fourth year parents who joined us. The fifth year students had a group conference with their teachers since there were no parents who came.
During the PTSC, the students receive letter grades which reflect their current performance in their major subjects. Based on their identified strengths and weaknesses, the students with the guidance of their parents and teachers, formulate their plans of action for the rest of the quarter with the intent of maintaining or possibly improving their grades.
Parents please monitor your children’s study period at home and constantly remind them to do their school assignments and projects. We observed that one of the reasons why your children are receiving low grades is non submission of requirements.
Students it is your responsibility to approach your teachers if you missed some assessments. Your teachers could give you make-up activities especially if your reason is valid. If you also find it hard to understand your lessons, please make appointment for tutorials with your subject teacher. Your teachers are more than willing to extend their assistance after classes.
18 male fourth and fifth year students from our school took the written exam of NYK TDG Maritime Academy administered at St. Vincent’s School Wednesday morning, July 13. Ten passed and were interviewed in the afternoon.
Congratulations goes to the following passers: Luis Edpis, Jocke Rivy (Armiro) Gulian, Jansen Domoguen, Kevin Calpi, Dexter Cadalig, Winzum Daoas, Khen Kollin, Kurt Balaso, Guillermo Semon, and Calvin Biag.
To the eight who did not make it, I believe you learned from the experience. There are still a lot of opportunities for you. Thanks to Brother Stephen, our chaplain, for accompanying the students and making sure they returned home safe.
We express our sincerest condolences to the family of Kurt Davey “Gayman” Capuyan Page-et. We share your grief in the untimely demise of your loving child. He was with us in our kinder program for two years and graduated last March. Gayman died last Monday, July 18. We also pray for the eternal repose of his soul.
The meeting of the Board of Trustees which was originally scheduled last Sunday, July 17, was postponed to a later date.
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND FUTURE EVENTS
Please be guided with the following schedule of college admission tests. Students you may approach Ms. Jenny Bicarme, our guidance counselor, if you are interested to take the entrance exams. The applications forms are usually submitted at least a month before the schedule although there are schools that allow walk-in applicants. Apply as early as possible. Refrain from applying at the last minute especially that some schools require a lot of forms.
